An information guide to The PE and Sport Premium and how Striver supports schools improve in the 5 key areas as outlined by the DfE.

As a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, the Department for Education took steps to relax the ring-fencing arrangements for the PE and sport premium in the 2019 to 2020 academic year to allow any unspent grant to be carried forward into the 2020 to 2021 academic year. Any under-spends carried forward from the 2019 to 2020 academic year will now need to be spent in full by the end of the 2020 to 2021 academic year.

Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of the physical education (PE), physical activity and sport they provide. You should use the PE and sport premium to secure improvements in the following 5 key areas that the DfE recommends:

  1. Engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity
  2. Profile of PE and sport is raised across the school as a tool for whole-school improvement
  3. Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
  4. Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
  5. Increased participation in competitive sport
