World Ocean Day

May 29, 2023

On World Ocean Day, 8th June, people around our blue planet will be coming together to celebrate and honour our ocean. The ocean connects us all, between countries and across the world and by working together, we must protect and restore our oceans. The conservation action focus this year is 'Protect at least 30% of our lands, waters and ocean by 2023 (30x30)'

To teach students about World Oceans Day on Purple Mash, we have several resources you can use.

Writing Resources

Guide your class with some research about the oceans and then complete one of our writing projects 👇 Or, they could write about World Oceans Day with this writing template.

Reading Resources

To help with research projects, we have some fantastic DK Learning texts on Purple Mash which link brilliantly with World Ocean Day.

Find out more about Our Incredible Oceans and the life that they support, or learn more about the Curious Underwater Creatures that live in the oceans. With all of our DK Learning texts, you'll also find quizzes, reading comprehensions and writing activities.

If you have Serial Mash as an add-on to your Purple Mash subscription, you'll also have access to some fantastic story books in your online library. If you don't have it yet, why not take out a free trial and give it a go?

Fun Activities and Games

For the younger learners, you can use 2Paint to paint the animals that you might find living in the sea. Can they paint a fish and tell you what makes them suited to living in the sea? Or they can draw their very own sea creature!

We also have a number of Mashcams that children can use to celebrate the ocean! Are they going to be a diver where they can tell you all about the fish they have found on their sea adventure? Or do they want to be a 15th Century Sailor?

Whatever you are doing to celebrate World Ocean Day, we would love to see and share your work. Tweet us @2SimpleSoftware or @PurpleMash, or go to 2SimpleUK on Facebook.
